Coordinating conjunctions

  • 1 Coordinating conjunctions

    Сочинительные союзы служат для связи предложений в составе сложносочиненного предложения (см. Compound sentence) или для связи однородных членов.
    Сочинительные союзы в английском языке бывают:
    1) простыми:

    and — и

    but — но

    or — или

    2) составными:

    both... and — и... и, как... так и

    either... or — или... или

    neither... nor — ни... ни

    not only... but also — не только... но и

    3) Для соединения независимых предложений служат также наречия:

    moreover - кроме того,

    therefore - поэтому,

    so - так что,

    however - однако,

    nevertheless - тем не менее,

    still, yet - тем не менее,

    besides - кроме того,

    otherwise, else, or else - иначе,

    thus - таким образом,

    hence, thence - следовательно.

  • 2 Compound sentence

    Сложное предложение, состоящее из нескольких равноправных частей, то есть таких частей, среди которых нельзя выделить главную и зависимые. Части сложного предложения могут соединяться бессоюзным способом или с помощью сочинительного союза (см. Coordinating conjunctions).

    And after a time she turned round and looked at him, and her eyes were full of tears. — Спустя некоторое время она повернулась и посмотрела на него; ее глаза были полны слез.

    I had my gun along, but I hadn't shot anything; it was for protection. — У меня было с собой ружье, но я ничего не подстрелил, оно скорее нужно было для защиты.

  • 3 Conjunction

    Союзы служат для связи частей сложного предложения или однородных членов предложения, выражая смысловое отношение между ними. Союзы делятся на сочинительные, соединяющие независимые однородные члены или части сложносочиненного предложения (см. Coordinating conjunctions), и подчинительные, вводящие придаточные (то есть зависимые) предложения (см. Subordinating conjunctions). В качестве союзов могут выступать относительные местоимения which, that - который, where - где и т.д. (см. Relative pronouns).
